🎙️ How Text to Speech Works

This tool uses the Web Speech API (Speech Synthesis) built into modern browsers. The voices are provided by your operating system and browser.

  • Voice Selection: Choose from available system voices (varies by OS)
  • Speed Control: Adjust from 0.5x (slow) to 2x (fast)
  • Pitch Control: Make the voice higher or lower pitched
  • Volume Control: Adjust playback volume from 0% to 100%

✨ Use Cases

  • Accessibility: Help visually impaired users consume written content
  • Proofreading: Listen to your writing to catch errors
  • Learning: Improve pronunciation and language learning
  • Multitasking: Listen to articles while doing other tasks
  • Testing: Preview how screen readers will read your content
  • Content Creation: Preview how a script sounds before recording a voice-over

ℹ️ Browser Compatibility

Text to speech is supported in most modern browsers:

  • ✅ Chrome/Edge: Excellent support with many voices
  • ✅ Safari: Good support on macOS and iOS
  • ✅ Firefox: Basic support with limited voices
  • ❌ Older Browsers: May not support Web Speech API

Note: Available voices depend on your operating system. Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android each provide different voices.

🌍 Language Support

The tool supports multiple languages through system voices. Common languages include:

  • English (US, UK, Australian, Indian accents)
  • Spanish (Spain, Latin American)
  • French, German, Italian, Portuguese
  • Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese), Japanese, Korean
  • Arabic, Hindi, Russian, and many more

Tip: Select a voice that matches your text's language for best results.

🔒 Privacy Notice

This tool uses your browser's Web Speech API; TextPlus.net never receives your text. Most voices run on your device, but some browsers offer online voices (for example Chrome's “Google …” voices or Edge's “Online (Natural)” voices) that send the text to the browser maker's speech service. Pick a local voice for sensitive text.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download the audio as an MP3?

No. The tool uses your device’s built-in voices, and browsers do not let websites save that audio. To keep it, use a screen or audio recorder.

How do I slow the voice down?

Move the speed slider below 1x. The range is 0.5x to 2x.

Why are there different voices on different devices?

The voices come from your operating system and browser. Installing more voices in your system settings adds them here.
